Academic, PhD by the U Lisboa (1992). Full Professor and Chair of Physiology and Pathophysiology / Disease Mechanisms, with a particular focus in microcirculatory function and regulation and experimental dermatology. Founder member and current Chairman of the EEMCO Group, He is part of many scientific societies, including the Physiological Society and the American Physiological Society in which he is part of P-MIG education group. He is involved in the editorial board of various journals, such as Frontiers in Physiology (Guest-editor), being the Chief-editor of Biomedical and Biopharmaceutical Research journal. He gathered multiple awards, while publishing more than 500 science publications including book chapters and papers in specialized journals.
Ana Sofia Fernandes
Graduated in Pharmaceutical Sciences (2004), received her PhD in Pharmacy (specialty of Toxicology, 2010) from the U Lisboa. Chair of Pharmacology and Toxicology at Universidade Lusófona, Ana Sofia s also the Scientific Director for Innovation and the coordinator of the Laboratory of Pharmacology and Therapeutics of CBIOS – the Research Center for Biosciences & Health Technologies from U Lusofona. Recently (2018) received the title of European Registered Toxicologist, and is the Portuguese delegate of the COST actions EU-ROS and NutRedOx. Published, from 2007 on, 45 scientific full papers indexed to Scopus/Pubmed and received several distinctions, including an Early Research Career Prize (SFRR Europe, 2010). Her main research interest is to explore the impact of ROS and redox modulators on cancer etiology and progression.
Hugo Duarte Ferreira
Hugo Alexandre Ferreira is a medical doctor and physics engineer, holding a PhD in Physics on the topics of nanotechnologies applied to biomedicine. He was founder and CEO of Haloris Nanotechnologies, a biosensor company for in vitro diagnostics, and worked for Siemens Healthcare as an in vivo imaging expert prior to returning to academia. Presently, he is a senior scientist at the Institute of Biophysics and Biomedical Engineering of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (FCUL). He works in medical imaging, oncology, neurosciences, brain-computer interfaces and physiological computing. He is also a coordinator and lecturer of the Integrated Master’s in Biomedical Engineering and Biophysics at FCUL. Additionally, he is founder and chief medical officer at NeuroPsyAI, a company that improves diagnosis of neurological and psychiatric diseases using brain scans and AI, and also founder of EmotAI, an IoT company that aims to improve athletes’ performance using neurotechnology. Finally, he is also an evaluator and advisor for projects and companies in Life Sciences, NanoTech, MedTech, and other technological fields.
